Kharkiv rescues work at six water ponds of the city

The communal organization has been working for four years at 6 water ponds of Kharkiv, Rescue posts and tents are set in Alekseyevsky, Oktyabrsky, Osnovyansky, Bezludovsky, Petrenkovsky, Zhuravlevsky hydro parks. In particular, there are 3 rescues and 1 medicine worker at the term of duty in Zhuravlevsky hydro park. There are 42 rescues all together on the pond and their main task is to help a sinking person.

“If the rescues see a person in the water who needs their help, two rescues work at the same time, - the chief of “Water rescue service” Valeriy Mikhailov admitted. – One of them is boating, the other one is swimming to help a sinking person”.

Also the rescues must warn the visitors of water ponds of danger that can be caused by many factors.

“Unfortunately, one of the main problems by now is alcohol drinking on the beaches and the results of it. 905 of people who paid their life in the water were not sober. Some water ponds, for example, Zhuravlevsky, have certain peculiarities like change of temperatures because of difference in depth. The average depth of this water pond is 7 m, but there are areas where the depth is 9-12 m. the temperature may fall to +5◦C on the bed even in hot weather. This can become e a reason of cramps and loosing control of a person on the water”, - admitted Valeriy Mikhailov.

During the last summer the water rescue service of the city managed to reanimate 19 people. This year there have been reanimated 6 people.

“There have been so-called difficult cases. Besides our rescues help people every day at less difficult circumstances”, - added the head of water rescue service of the city.
