Kharkiv signed Memorandum of Understanding with UNDP

On 4 April, Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov met with a delegation of the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine.

During the meeting, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at deepening cooperation in restoring damaged infrastructure and improving the City's energy efficiency.

Ihor Terekhov thanked the UN representatives for the assistance already provided in clearing the rubble, dismantling emergency buildings, and rebuilding housing. At the same time, the Mayor said, the City's infrastructure needs additional resources to stabilise the situation with energy supply.

«You have seen the extent of the destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure and probably understand that no city in the world would be able to cope with it on its own. And after the recent shelling of thermal power plants and substations, it is especially important for us to normalise the operation of the energy system. Moreover, we already have joint experience in implementing similar projects, such as the installation of solar panels in one of Kharkiv's hospitals», - said Ihor Terekhov.

In his turn, UNDP Resident Representative Jaco Cilliers said that their organisation is involved in many initiatives to restore Kharkiv, including heating and the restoration of damaged infrastructure.

«We are looking for ways to help Kharkiv with energy and heat supply. This morning we visited many residential buildings that were heavily damaged or even completely destroyed. And we also want to support the city in fixing them in the safest way possible and then start rebuilding», - said Jaco Cilliers.
