Volodymyr Zelenskyi: It is important to add security to Kharkiv

The central government of Ukraine and foreign leaders are actively working to strengthen air defence in Kharkiv.

This was announced today, 1 March, by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in his evening video address. He said that together with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, he had walked around Kharkiv, the site of russian missile strikes.

"Ordinary houses are broken, the City's infrastructure is destroyed. It is important to make Kharkiv safer. We are working with all leaders to strengthen air defence here and in our other cities. The world has such potential, and we need a common determination to make russian terror lose," Volodymyr Zelenskiy said.

The President also informed that today Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Air Force Mykola Oleshchuk and Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov had held a special military briefing for Mark Rutte on the current situation at the front, the capabilities of the Ukrainian army in active operations and defence in specific areas. The conversation also covered Kharkiv.

Earlier, Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov repeatedly stressed the need to close the sky over the City. According to him, since Kharkiv is located in close proximity to the border with russia, only the most advanced air defence systems will be able to do this.
