Derussification of place names keeps going in Kharkiv

The process of derussification of place names in the City of Kharkiv has not stopped and is ongoing.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said this in an interview with Dumka. According to him, the decision to rename some place names is planned to be submitted to the February session.

‘We are currently in contact with the toponymic group and the Institute of National Memory. We have a lot of things to remove. We need to find a line here. Definitely, all place names associated with russia will be removed. The only question is not to upset the balance and not to cause more inconvenience to people now. No one is slowing down the renaming process, we understand everything. We are carefully selecting the names that the streets will bear – some of them will be historical, some will be new. We have to discuss everything, because I don’t want to see any changes after us,’ emphasized Ihor Terekhov.

The Mayor also noted that Kharkiv residents will definitely immortalize the memory of the heroes who gave their lives defending Ukraine. In particular, a street will be named after Hero of Ukraine Heorhii Tarasenko.
