Events dedicated to the International Childhood Cancer Day held in Kharkiv
On the occasion of the International Childhood Cancer Day which was marked the day before, a number of events were held at the City Clinical Children’s Hospital No. 16.
To support the young patients, the hospital traditionally organized a blood donation campaign in which medical staff took part. Also, a holiday with clowns, a performance of life-size puppets, a concert by musicians of Kotlyarevskyi National University of Music and a music therapy session with Nigel Osborne were prepared for children treated in the Hematology Department. In addition, the young patients received sweets and gifts.
According to the medical centre, the institution has not stopped working since the beginning of the full-scale war. Thus, chemotherapy and necessary laboratory tests continued around the clock in the shelter. In 2022, 465 patients were admitted to the Hematology Department including nine children with cancer and 93 with oncohematological diseases. As of today, 225 children with cancer are registered at the dispensary, and 46 patients are receiving treatment at the department.
With the support of government and City programmes, as well as sponsorship, the hospital is provided with medicines and modern equipment. In particular, last year, the hospital purchased a telemedicine system that allows for a qualified examination of patients outside the hospital, endoscopic equipment that provides high-quality diagnostics of gastrointestinal pathologies to detect cancer at early stages, etc.
In addition, the Psychological Support Service is being developed and improved, in particular, classes are regularly held for young patients to prevent post-traumatic disorders related to military aggression. The Superheroes School also continues to operate on the territory of the institution.
For reference. On February 15, the world marks the International Childhood Cancer Day. Since 2003, Ukraine has joined the organization of this day.
