The exhibition of portraits of Chernobyl cleanup veterans opened in Kharkiv

 

Honoured man of arts of Ukraine, Oleg Veklenko created the series of works in the zone of accident management in Atomic Power Station in Chernobyl. He arrived to the segregation zone as a part of chemical regiment. «As an artist I saw so many types of people that I started to picture them for myself. Some small pictures I simply gave as a keepsake. And then command officers came with people who distinguished from others. During a couple of months I have pictured 36 portraits. Once one of press correspondents published one of my portraits and after this all the Soviet Union found out about my works. There were held a lot of exhbitions of the portraits in different cities», - Oleg Veklenko told.

 

18 portraits are represented on the exhibition, 16 of them depict kharkovites. Some of the heroes of works came to the exhibition personally. 

 

This exposition carries the memory of the tragical event one can't forget about. A lot of people came to the opening what means the subject of Chernobyl is not forgotten and people areт't indifferent to it. 

 

The series of children pictures on the topic of Chernobyl tragedy is also represented on the exhibition.
 
Note. The exhibition is held by Kharkiv civil society organisation «Chernobyl Union» involving International study center IBB(Dortmund, Germany).
