Nuremberg delegation highly appreciated Kharkiv preparation to UEFA EURO-2012

The delegation from Kharkiv's German twin city Nuremberg, headed by Vice-Mayor Dr. Klemens Gsell was deeply impressed by the development of the east Ukrainian industry and science hub in the last 20 years. The co-operation between the two cities started in 1991 and was sparked by a football match, as Dr. Norbert Schuergers, Nurembergs Head of the Department of International Affairs in Nuremberg, pointed out.

 

The intense partnership, which once started from humanitarian commitments of the German side, nowadays mainly consists of exchange of knowledge in all aspects of city councils' organisation from healthcare to garbage removal and cultural events. «But we would like to extend the co-operation to the younger generation also, to schools and pupils», Dr. Gsell explained. For the UEFA EURO2012, Nuremberg had delivered expertise in organisation from having been a host city during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Nuremberg had even written a letter of recommendation for Kharkiv during the bid. «I see this tournament being staged a very relaxed atmosphere, Dr. Gsell said. «Perhaps we from Nuremberg have contributed a little bit to this achievement».

 

As Nuremberg visitors noted, the international volunteer camp in Kharkiv also has three volunteers from their city.
