Kharkiv city council addressed the town-hall of Rome(refreshed)

 

The text is the following: “Keep your hands off Berlusconi! Because of him, Italy lost millions! Municipality of Rome! Support not only Ukrainian but your ex-prime minister also!” 

 

Yuri Sidorenko, the director of the Department of information and public communications, informed that the idea to place a banner with this content belongs the mayor of Kharkiv Gennadiy Kernes.

 

"The mayor has carefully studied the situation in Rome that was happening a day before yesterday, and he heard the appeal of the mayor of Rome to the mayors of other cities to support political prisoners. So he decided to support a political prisoner in Italy, ex-prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. At the court his case was heard as economic, in fact, as the case of Yulia Timoshenko. In this case, Italy has lost millions of euros that were sheltered from taxes - Ukraine is also losing money on gas agreements by Timoshenko. Timoshenko specifies her case as political as well as Berlusconi. Therefore, it was decided to call colleagues in the town-hall of Rome to be consistent and to support not only the Ukrainian ex-prime minister, but their Italian one as well," - Yuri Sidorenko emphasized.

 

He also noted that other political figures are targeted in alike investigations, for instance, ex-president of France Nicolas Sarkozy, so each country should better be engaged with their politicians, but not to put pressure on the others.

 

According to Yuri Sidorenko, the decision to post the banner was made by the city mayor, his deputies and practical majority of the city council -  the representatives of parliamentary party of Regions who give their endorsement over the phone.

The size of the banner is 12 to 13 meters. The production of the banner didn’t cost city budget a penny.

 

The appeal to Municipality of Rome will be withdrawn tomorrow.
