City council welcomes signing of language law by the President

 

The city council is sure that accedence of the law will dismantle restrictions on adaption of the Russian language in the function of State body and local government, legal proceedings,   educational institutions. This problem is particularly topical for Kharkiv as during All Ukraine population tabulation of census data in 2001 more than 65% acknowledged Russian as their native language.

Note. On July, 10 2012 Kharkiv city council passed the decision to address the president with the petition to sign the Act of Ukraine «About the bases of state language policy». Later the decision was accepted by the deputies of Kharkiv regional council. The President of Ukraine signed the law on August, 8.
