Kharkiv practice towards the stray animals is successful in the World

The method of controlling the number of stray pets in Kharkiv is successfully applied in the countries of Europe and  America.

Yulia Shapovalova, the director of «Animal Centre» stated it. She noted that new method of catching animals (without returning them back to the street) has shown its positive dynamics in the reduction of stray animals number in Kharkiv. So the 5,12% decrease of stray dogs bites against the general dogs bites has been noticed since 2010.

«I certainly and clearly state that the method of irretrievable catching of stray animals and further placement to the shelter is the only efficient way to reduce the number of stray pets. Such a  problem was also solved in the counties of Europe, USA, Canada and Australia with this very method. But the countries where catching-spaying-backset method is used, for example Greece and Rumania. They still have the problem and it is very serious», - the director emphasized.

She told that Kharkiv had faced a sad experience of using catching-spaying-backset method before. It increased the number of dogs on the streets, the growth of people bitten by stray dogs and even led to the death of elderly woman in 2010. Moreover the researches showed that spaying leads to the increase of agression of she-dogs (and the method of catching-spaying-backset is used to she-dogs mostly). The experience shows that this method haven't reduced the number of stray dogs in any country.

Yulia Shapovalova has provided an example of an inefficiency of the method. Though Moscow and Odessa widely use this method(fully at the expense of German sponsors) during long years they still have a lot of stray dogs walking on the streets.

The director also told that the method of  catching-spaying-backset of animals is not recommended to the countries with European culture of keeping pets and Ukraine is among these counties. This method is recommended to the culture of  Asian countries. Its aim is not to reduce the number of stray pets but to recover the population and prevent rabies disease.
