Ihor Terekhov met with representatives of the Czech organization ‘People in Need’

Today, on February 18, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov met with representatives of the humanitarian organization ‘People in Need’ (Czech Republic).

The parties discussed the current socio-economic situation in Kharkiv and identified further priority areas for humanitarian aid.

According to Šimon Panek, Executive Director of the People in Need organization, Kharkiv was the first city to which the Czech Republic sent humanitarian aid after the outbreak of the full-scale war.

‘In the spring, we sent food, hygiene products, and medicines to the affected Kharkiv residents by train. A little later, we started working on housing projects and transferred funds to those in need. Our organization is the largest humanitarian organization in the Czech Republic, we have an office in Kharkiv, and we are going to continue to actively support the City’s residents and City authorities with everything they need,’ said Šimon Panek.

Ihor Terekhov thanked the people of the Czech Republic and, in particular, the People in Need organization for their cooperation and support of Kharkiv residents.

‘I am very grateful for your help. Starting from February 24 last year, the City has suffered significant destruction as a result of bombing by the russian aggressor, and many people were injured. Some were wounded, some lost their homes or jobs. In addition, the occupiers severely damaged critical infrastructure. But, despite everything, we are an outpost of Slobozhanshchyna! We are heroically defending ourselves, restoring buildings that have been hit by missiles whenever possible, and doing everything we can to ensure that Kharkiv residents enjoy the pre-war standard of living. And now we could use help with generators and heaters, given the difficult energy situation,’ the Mayor said.

For reference. On June 30, 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Kharkiv City Council and the branch of the organization ‘People in Need’ (Clovek v tisni) in Ukraine.  As part of the memorandum, the following assistance was provided to the City of Kharkiv: generators, blankets, heaters, spotlights, blankets, a mini-power plant, water heaters, food packages, etc.

According to the agreement between the Saltivske Tram Depot and the Transport Company of Prague, which was brokered by People in Need, Kharkiv also received 20 trams.
