Baby dolphin was born in Kharkiv dolphinarium

 

The trainer of Kharkiv dolphinarium Irina Mironova told that the baby dolphin was born at 6:45.  Mother and a baby feel well. 

 

«She swims only in the middle of the pool with her baby. Father dolphin Gesha guards his family from other dolphins. We have even canceled the performance so they could accustom to the atmosphere and swim a lot. Baby is feed on with the mother’s milk», - Irina Mironova noted.

 

She also told that Vita is the only dolphinet there and dolphin Gesha has started to woo her long ago. The staff members of dolphinarium suspected Vita’s pregnancy after she began to refuse the performances and started to grow stout. She carried a child during 12 months.

 

The trainer noted that this is a first birth in the dolphinarium. The staff members will see after a family and they will apply the veterinarian help in case it is needed. 

 

According to Oleksij Grigoriev, the director of Kharkiv zoo, birth in dolphinarium is a rare happening as the natural habitat is much better for it. But the Kharkiv zoo has become an exception. «The representatives of Eurasian aquarium association visited  Kharkiv dolphinarium and told that it has the best conditions for keeping dolphins and for gestation of babies», - Oleksij Grigoriev emphasized.

 

The baby dolphin hasn’t been named yet. They will announce a competition for the best name for a baby. The terms of the competition will be published on the site of dolphinarium. The winner will be chosen on a Town Day, August 23.

 

All in all there are seven dolphins along with a newborn one.
