Kharkiv to receive funding for the purchase of 30 electric buses

Today, on 5 February, Kharkiv City Council approved the Loan Funds Transfer Agreement concluded with the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.

The decision was made at an extraordinary session of the city council.

The document envisages raising borrowed funds for the purchase of electric buses in accordance with the Urban Public Transport of Ukraine II financial agreement between Ukraine and the European Investment Bank.

As part of the subproject ‘Renewal of the rolling stock of the city of Kharkiv’, 30 electric buses are planned to be purchased. The total amount of the loan will be up to EUR 15 million and the repayment period will be up to 22 years, including a grace period of up to five years.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov stressed that the city authorities were paying special attention to the selection of the electric bus manufacturer.

‘We have studied all the proposals in detail and analysed the experience of European and Asian countries. It is important for us to understand which electric buses will be able to operate efficiently in our weather conditions, what kind of charge they should have, and what routes they should cover. We carefully select suppliers, paying attention not only to the price of the vehicle but also to the cost of maintenance and other aspects. This is an extremely important and balanced step, and we have to be the first in Ukraine to take it,’ the mayor said.
