Kharkiv plans to develop transport infrastructure

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for Kharkiv, which was approved today, 20 December, at an extraordinary session of the city council, contains a specific list of measures that will contribute to the development of transport infrastructure.
In addition to a descriptive analysis of Kharkiv's transport system and urban mobility, the document outlines scenarios for the development of this sector. Thus, the programme contains an action plan for 2024 to 2050 that will help improve safety on the city's roads, introduce innovative technologies in transport management, and comprehensively restore the transport system, etc.
In particular, Kharkiv plans to improve lighting on streets and roads, integrate sound warnings into pedestrian traffic lights, equip public transport with emergency warning systems, and build protective structures near bus stops. The plan provides for the modernisation of ground public transport, taking into account the needs of charging electric vehicles, and reducing the time and distance of citizens' movements.
Given that the share of the metro in the structure of public transport is 45%, the approved document also takes into account the development of the underground network, including the construction of new metro stations: «Odeska», «Druzhba Motel», «Airport», «Skhidna», «Rohanska», etc.
Kharkiv will also develop a project of pedestrian zones in the central part of the city, taking into account the concept of the Old Town pedestrian tourist zone.
