City Council approves Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

Today, on 20 December, at an extraordinary session, the deputies of the City Council unanimously approved the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for the city of Kharkiv.
According to the Department of Construction and Roads, the plan aims to ensure the necessary level of safety and convenience of moving around the city on foot, by light personal, bicycle or public transport. They noted that the plan is a strategic roadmap that will need to be constantly updated in line with the possible needs of the population in terms of movement around the city, transport and energy infrastructure. It was especially important to approve the document now, as Kharkiv is in the process of purchasing new equipment.
«This is a global document that was developed together with foreign partners. In the future, we will consult with the public and make amendments to it, because creating sustainable mobility in the city is a dynamic process», - said Mayor Igor Terekhov.
The plan was developed as part of the Integrated Urban Development in Ukraine II project, implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) with financial support from the governments of Germany and Switzerland. The need to adopt such a document is explicitly stipulated in the financial agreements with the European Investment Bank under the Urban Public Transport of Ukraine project.
