Adaptation space for IDPs opened in Kharkiv

The opening of the first adaptation space "Svii" aimed at supporting internally displaced persons took place today, 7 May, in Kharkiv.
The event was attended by Mayor Ihor Terekhov, Acting Head of the Kharkiv Office of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Ukraine Teddy Leposki, Head of the IDP and War Victims Support Unit of the Right to Protection Charitable Foundation Oleksandra Zhurko, as well as representatives of international foundations and organisations.
"According to official statistics, we currently have 200,000 IDPs living in Ukraine. These are the people who were forced to leave the settlements occupied by the enemy. We are doing our best to help them adapt to Kharkiv as soon as possible," said Ihor Terekhov during the roundtable discussion.
In the "Svii" adaptation space, services will be provided by representative offices of international funds and organisations, administrative service centres, lawyers, and psychologists. Citizens will be able to register there for financial assistance or accommodation in a dormitory, receive food packages, etc. In addition, IDPs will be able to apply for employment there.
"We are almost ready to launch a retraining programme for those specialities that are in short supply in our city. We need to integrate the IDPs, support them, provide them with jobs, build new housing and do everything to ensure that they do not get lost and are fully involved in the community," said Ihor Terekhov.
