An accessibility map is being created in Kharkiv

An interactive accessibility map is planned to be developed in Kharkiv by the end of 2024.

This was announced by Yuriy Shparaga, Director of the Department of Inclusive Accessibility and Barrier-Free Environment. According to him, there are many facilities in Kharkiv that already meet barrier-free standards.

‘The problem is that few people know about them. Therefore, we decided to create an accessibility map, a service that can be used from any gadget. By opening this map, every Kharkiv resident or guest of the city will be able to see the real picture of accessibility in Kharkiv,’ said Yuriy Shparaga.

According to him, working groups have been set up in each district to check the compliance of trade and consumer services facilities, hospitals, banks, hotels, social welfare institutions, etc. with the barrier-free standards. All facilities that pass this inspection will be marked on an interactive map. In addition, the service will help Kharkiv residents find out which routes are used by trolleybuses and low-floor buses.

According to Yuriy Shparaga, those facilities that do not yet meet these standards will be included in a separate register, after which a programme will be developed to overcome barriers in Kharkiv.
