Today, on May 31, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov congratulated students in the underground school and the metro school on the end of the school year.
The mayor also thanked the educators who have been doing their job since the first days of the large-scale invasion of Russia, despite the constant shelling.
“I congratulate everyone on the beginning of the holidays! I really want our children to have a rest despite all the horrors that are happening around them. Some of the kids have already told me that they are going to go to the sea and the Carpathians. And this is very good, because they need to be distracted for a while and gain strength where it is safer now. At the same time, I believe and hope that our partners will hear us and provide modern air defense systems to Kharkiv so that we can open regular schools in the future and not be forced to continue building underground ones,” said Igor Terekhov.
In total, 7.5 thousand eleventh-graders graduated from Kharkiv this year, and 7.3 thousand children completed their first school year. The vast majority of educational institutions, except for those with radiation shelters, held celebratory lines online.
