Igor Terekhov: Kharkiv education is one of the best in Ukraine

‘Despite the war, Kharkiv's education system is one of the best in Ukraine. And it is important for us to maintain this level. This means retaining the teaching staff and ensuring equal opportunities for all children to receive quality knowledge. Today, 53% of students are physically located in Kharkiv. There are many IDPs among them. And everyone undoubtedly deserves safe conditions for offline learning. That is why we are building new underground schools. Just like those children who were forced to leave the country by the war, they should also be able to attend not only foreign schools but also continue their online studies at their native Kharkiv schools. This helps them not to lose touch with home and feel part of a united Ukrainian nation,’ the mayor stressed. 

According to him, 117 kindergartens (57%), 134 school buildings (69%), 13 out-of-school institutions (46%), and 4 buildings of education departments (44%) were damaged as a result of Russia's armed aggression in the city. One third of the facilities were hit repeatedly, and four schools are beyond repair.
