The University Cup, the largest student event in the IT sector, started today, 22 February, in Kharkiv.
The event was opened by Mayor Igor Terekhov. In his speech, the mayor emphasised that Kharkiv's reconstruction is inextricably linked to economic development, the return of students and support for internally displaced persons.
‘The creation of modern IT parks and research centres is the key to the future of Kharkiv. We must not only bring people back to the city, but also create all the conditions for their comfortable life and professional development. Our city will compete for human resources, and the IT industry will become its driving force,’ the mayor stressed.
Ihor Terekhov also noted that Kharkiv is already implementing unique projects to create a science park, develop industrial clusters, and restore infrastructure.
For their contribution to the development of educational initiatives and support of the technology sector, the mayor presented the Mayor's Acknowledgements to representatives of the IT cluster and the university community.
Alexander Medovoi, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kharkiv IT Cluster, noted that the IT industry plays a key role in the recovery and development of the region's economy.
‘We see the world changing, and Kharkiv has every chance to be at the centre of these changes. IT is not just about technology, it is about people who create the future. Today, it is important not only to develop the industry but also to invest in education to train new generations of professionals capable of changing Ukraine and the world,’ said Alexander Medovoi.
As part of the event, the Kharkiv IT Cluster awards were presented to the Department of Education and the Department of Digital Transformation for cooperation, support of educational initiatives of the IT community and creation of a high-quality learning environment for future professionals.
For reference. The University Cup is an educational, analytical, and training project that brings together teachers, students, and schoolchildren in the IT field. Its main goals are to promote Kharkiv as an educational and innovation centre, draw attention to the development of IT education, and attract applicants to technical specialities.
This year, more than 2,000 people will take part in the competition, including students from leading Kharkiv universities. The event is supported by Ukrainian and international companies.
