Kharkiv established friendly relations with the English City of Leeds

The solemn ceremony of signing the Friendship Oath between the cities of Kharkiv and Leeds took place on the 6th of December in the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Prague (Czech Republic).
The document was signed by the First Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv, Oleksandr Novak and the Lord Mayor of Leeds Al Garthwaite. Before the ceremony, they held a working meeting, where they discussed joint activities in the field of culture and sport.
The British Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Harris emphasized the importance of the initiative of the two cities.
"The signing of the Friendship Oath between Leeds and Kharkiv is a testament to the strong ties between Ukraine and the United Kingdom at all levels, between cities and people. All over the United Kingdom, people are standing side by side with Ukraine. Together we are stronger," said the Ambassador.
Lord Mayor Al Garthwaite said that Leeds and Kharkiv have a lot in common.
"In particular, we care equally about the culture and education of our inhabitants. Let the document we signed today be the first confident step of our future cooperation. I look forward to developing a fruitful partnership between our Сities and especially the day when there will be peace in Ukraine," said Al Garthwaite.
In his turn, Oleksandr Novak thanked for the support that the United Kingdom provides to Ukraine.
"We are very grateful to the people of the United Kingdom for their support in the fight against the Russian aggressor. I am sure that today we have laid a powerful foundation for our further joint work for the benefit of the inhabitants of our Cities," Oleksandr Novak emphasized.
Let's remind that Leeds is the first city in the UK, with which Kharkiv establishes partnership relations.
