The Kharkiv Cooperation and Development Forum was held today, February 22, with the participation of the Kharkiv City Council, foreign partners, and representatives of the public sector.
The event was attended by representatives of international foundations UNICEF, UNHCR, UCBI, International Rescue Committee, Right to Protection, Green Country, Proliska, Unbreakable Kharkiv, and others.
During the forum, the departments of housing and communal services, education, and emergency situations presented the results of the city's reconstruction and plans for further development of various spheres of public life.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov thanked all the partners who, despite the war, did not stop funding any of the projects. He emphasized that no other Ukrainian city has seen such destruction as Kharkiv.
"The damage caused by the enemy is estimated at about $10 billion. No city can come up with such funds on its own. And here we are counting on our joint work, on the help of our foreign partners, financial institutions, and international funds. We already have serious experience in cooperation with you - the metro school project. Now we are working on building a real underground school and plan to scale this project to every district of the city. And the city authorities will not stop there," the mayor said.
He also emphasized that international partners are actively involved in the development of Kharkiv's infrastructure and the purchase of subway rolling stock. Thus, during the war, funds were allocated to purchase electric buses, which have no analogues in Ukraine. Ihor Terekhov also emphasized that the General Development Plan of Kharkiv is being developed jointly with the Norman Foster Foundation with the financial support of the German government. According to the mayor, a clear step-by-step strategy will help rebuild Kharkiv faster after the war.
"But now the main goal of all branches of power is to close the sky over Kharkiv, to let people live in safe conditions. We need to concentrate all our efforts to achieve this goal," said Igor Terekhov.
