An event dedicated to the restoration of Kharkiv started in Berlin

In his welcoming remarks, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov thanked the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the German government for supporting the initiative and for the opportunity to dedicate a separate event to the reconstruction of Kharkiv. 

The mayor began his speech with a demonstration of children's drawings depicting dreams of peace and calls to close the sky over the city.

«The children drew them recently when we held a competition. Before the war, these drawings depicted positive things, good emotions, and smiling people. And now, as you can see, our children have one wish and request to adults - close the sky over Kharkiv! Yes, they want to return to the normal life that the vast majority of children live in the 21st century», - said the mayor.  

The head of the city also noted that as a result of Russian aggression, Kharkiv suffered destruction and losses totaling about 10 billion euros.

«But we have survived, and today we face a huge challenge - not only to rebuild the city, but also to make it even better and, most importantly, safer», - emphasized Igor Terekhov. 

In his turn, the Mayor of Nuremberg, Markus König, emphasized that Kharkiv should not be left without support in difficult times of war. 

Acting Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Vasyl Shkurakov emphasized that Kharkiv should become an example for other Ukrainian cities in preparing infrastructure for the heating season. He expressed confidence in effective further cooperation with international partners to provide comprehensive support to the city of Kharkiv.
