International Organization for Migration will continue to support Kharkiv
Today, on May 16, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov held talks with the Head of the International Organization for Migration in Ukraine, Alessia Schiavone.
The parties exchanged views on further cooperation in the areas of assistance to internally displaced persons and restoration of damaged infrastructure.
Igor Terekhov noted that the top priority for Kharkiv in the current circumstances is to prepare for the new heating season, as the city has lost its main energy facilities as a result of the shelling and is forced to resort to rolling blackouts.
«Thank you for the help you have already provided and your constant presence in the city. Now the main thing for us is to prepare for the winter. Kharkiv is now home to more than 1.3 million people, and the population continues to grow due to the evacuation of people from the region. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for us to concentrate all our efforts on decentralizing heating, water supply and energy systems to get through the winter more or less normally. After all, no one is planning to leave here», - said Igor Terekhov.
According to Alessia Schiavone, her team is ready not only to continue working in the city, but also to join the implementation of urgent projects for the city.
«IOM has a very effective team in Kharkiv. And it is really important for us to hear your needs in order to know how to help you in the future. We will not stop our support until it is needed», - said Alessia Schiavone.
