Kharkiv and Nuremberg discuss cooperation plans

An online meeting between Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov and Nuremberg's mayor Markus Könning took place today, 20 February, shortly before the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Russia.

The event was also attended by representatives of the Kharkiv-Nuremberg Twinning Association.

The parties discussed current joint projects being implemented in Kharkiv. Particular attention was paid to the education and energy sectors. The talks focused on the reconstruction and equipment of safe shelters in schools, which would allow students to study in a full-time format even in times of war. In addition, they discussed the power equipment that Kharkiv has recently received, which will help the city withstand the challenges of wartime.

Igor Terekhov expressed his gratitude to Marcus Köning and all the residents of the twin city for their consistent support. He emphasised that Kharkiv is experiencing the consequences of Russian attacks every day, but despite this, it continues to live and rebuild.

‘The situation is generally difficult: over the past year, our city has experienced 318 attacks. But we are holding on and rebuilding what has been destroyed. We thank you for the help Kharkiv receives from you during the war. It is fundamentally important for us and critically needed now. The projects that we have implemented together in the educational, cultural, and infrastructure sectors, as well as the projects that are still being implemented, help Kharkiv maintain a normal life despite everything. We really appreciate our friendship!’ said Igor Terekhov.

In his turn, Markus Köhning assured that Nuremberg would continue to support Kharkiv, as he understands how important it is to restore the city's infrastructure.

‘We are ready to support as much as we can. It is terrible to see Ukrainian cities being destroyed and people suffering. But please know that our city and our people are fully on your side,’ said Markus Köning.
