UNICEF donates six cogeneration units to Kharkiv

Today, on 13 December, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov met with Munir Mammadzade, Head of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine.
During the meeting, which took place at the city boiler house, the mayor demonstrated the operation of one of the six cogeneration units that UNICEF had previously donated to Kharkiv. Igor Terekhov noted that the new equipment allows for a stable supply of heat and hot water to a small neighbourhood even in the absence of electricity. Other cogeneration units were also installed in boiler houses in three districts of the city. They simultaneously generate electricity for the boiler house, which in turn supplies heat and hot water to residential buildings.
«Now that the city is completely deprived of the ability to generate electricity on its own and the enemy is destroying our infrastructure, we understand how important such installations are. This is another small but very important step towards creating an "energy island" in Kharkiv», - said the mayor.
In his turn, Munir Mammadzadeh stressed that UNICEF will continue to support Kharkiv next year, including in the decentralisation of heat, water and power supply systems.
«As we see, the attacks on infrastructure facilities continue, so we are focusing our efforts on decentralising life support systems. The main goal is to provide neighbourhoods with everything they need to survive these difficult times of war. Children are also our priority. Primary support for families with children is the main focus of our foundation», - said Munir Mammadzade.
In addition to cogeneration units, in 2024, Kharkiv Heating Networks received 47 frequency converters, 22 gas generators, pipes, etc. as part of its cooperation with UNICEF.
