International partners from the UN will support the newly established Association of Frontline Towns and Communities.
Representatives of the organisation made this announcement today, 18 September, during the forum ‘Strategic Dimensions of Outpost Cities’.
In particular, Kenan Madi, head of the humanitarian programme of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine and coordinator of field offices, spoke about the areas of humanitarian support for Ukrainians and the development of infrastructure projects in the regions.
"For example, together with the Kharkiv city authorities, we have created a roadmap for the modernisation and sustainable development of water supply networks. This project is a good example of cooperation between foreign partners, city leaders and the government. And we will continue this work. In addition, we are ready for further cooperation on reconstruction, mental health support for Ukrainians and children's education," said Kenan Madi.
In turn, Ana Lukatela, Head of Regional Recovery at the United Nations Development Programme, said that the organisation already has confirmed funding for projects in Ukraine for the next three years. Among the priorities are support for businesses, veterans, IDPs and young people.
Finally, Ezekiel Kamangulu, Senior Project Manager at the UN Project Services Office in Ukraine and Eastern Europe and Head of the Kharkiv Office, emphasised the importance of creating an Association of Frontline Cities and Communities.
‘The creation of the Association is a powerful step forward. It reminds us that we are stronger when we are united. And although the frontline territories have suffered the most from the war, they also have the greatest potential for development. With sufficient support from partners, they will be able to lead the way in the recovery process,’ emphasised Ezekiel Kamangulu.
