Ihor Terekhov met with the Ambassador of Germany
Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Martin Jaeger on 4 May.
The event was also attended by Oleksandr Kubrakov, Vice Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, and Mustafa Nayem, Head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development.
As part of their working visit, they visited the Kharkiv underground school. The German ambassador praised the project and stressed his readiness to cooperate.
"The German government will do everything possible to rebuild and develop Kharkiv. In particular, we are helping to repair the damage at V.N. Karazin University - we will soon restore all 500 windows that were smashed as a result of the winter shelling. It is also very important to help the city restore its power supply facilities," said Martin Jaeger.
The parties also discussed a number of issues, including strengthening air defence and preparing the City for the next heating season.
Oleksandr Kubrakov emphasised that one of the key tasks is to create a decentralised model of electricity and heat supply in all districts of Kharkiv.
In turn, Mayor Ihor Terekhov thanked the Ukrainian government and German partners for supporting Kharkiv.
"The enemy has its own plans, but it does not matter to us. What matters is how we will upset these plans. Given the constant shelling, we need concrete steps to supply air defence equipment and systems. We cannot wait for the war to end, because Kharkiv needs to be defended and rebuilt right now," said Ihor Terekhov.
