Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov met with representatives of the German construction industry, who shared their experience in developing residential infrastructure.

The event was attended by Knut Heller, Head of the Housing Initiative for Eastern Europe, Ralf Schekir, Director of the Nuremberg Municipal Real Estate and Housing Company (WBG), and Daniel Ulrich, Director of the Nuremberg City Construction Department. The purpose of the meeting was to develop the Concept of Municipal Accommodation for the city of Kharkiv based on the example of Nuremberg.

According to the German developers, Kharkiv's post-war reconstruction should be based on a non-profit model, similar to the process that took place in Nuremberg after the First World War. In this case, international investors will be able to invest in the development of post-war Kharkiv, while local authorities will provide plots for housing construction.

Igor Terekhov noted that as a result of russia's armed aggression, about 150,000 Kharkiv residents were left homeless, so the issue of housing is one of the main ones, and the city authorities intend to attract funding from European banks for this purpose.

The mayor also discussed with German developers innovations in the construction industry on the example of the twin city of Nuremberg and further cooperation that will contribute to the development of Kharkiv.

The development of the concept of municipal housing for the city of Kharkiv is being carried out with the financial support of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the auspices of the UN Economic Commission for Europe's «UN4Ukrainian Cities project».
