Igor Terekhov addressed the Dallas City Council

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov delivered a speech at a session of the Dallas City Council (USA).

He spoke about the challenges that Kharkiv faces every day because of the war and presented strategic projects aimed at ensuring the safety and stability of the city.

In particular, Igor Terekhov stressed that housing remains one of the most pressing problems: 160,000 Kharkiv residents have lost their homes due to military aggression. In addition, the mayor presented the projects of the metro school and underground schools being implemented in Kharkiv, and spoke about the creation of an autonomous ‘energy island’.

‘Kharkiv is under attack every day - the enemy is destroying our infrastructure. Last year, our entire power generation was destroyed, and the city was on the brink of disaster. But we survived. Now we are building an ‘energy island’ to have an independent energy supply. It is a matter of survival. Today, more than 1.3 million people live in Kharkiv, including 206,000 IDPs. We must protect them and provide them with everything they need,’ said the mayor.

Igor Terekhov thanked the Mayor of Dallas Eric Johnson, members of the City Council, the US government and the entire American people for their support of Ukraine. He expressed confidence that the partnership with the international community will help Kharkiv to survive and rebuild itself as a modern, sustainable and comfortable city after the victory.
