Igor Terekhov spoke at the European business forum
Mayor Igor Terekhov took part in the Third Luxembourg-Ukraine Business Forum «Ukraine Resilience Business Forum», which took place today, March 5, at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Kharkiv City Council, city utilities, and Kharkiv businesses.
Igor Terekhov spoke at a panel dedicated to ensuring energy sustainability. He said that Kharkiv is regularly under enemy shelling, as a result of which mainly residential buildings, industrial enterprises, and critical infrastructure facilities are destroyed.
In his speech, the mayor emphasized the need to create an autonomous «energy island» in Kharkiv, which will allow the city to achieve energy independence.
«Thanks to cooperation with international partners, we are installing cogeneration equipment, gas turbine plants, and modular boiler houses. During the massive shelling of critical infrastructure, which occurred on December 25 last year, 13 S-400 missiles were recorded hitting it. Yes, new equipment was damaged. But we managed to maintain the city’s energy supply. We also did not stop the heat supply in some areas. And this is our small victory», - Igor Terekhov emphasized.
According to the mayor, the creation of an «energy island» will help significantly save money spent on transporting electricity and water to Kharkiv.
Igor Terekhov also said that in total, 140 units of generating equipment are planned to be installed in the city. In addition, Kharkiv is working on creating an independent power system for the metro and ground electric transport.
«Despite significant destruction, we are implementing all projects. But energy efficiency is the first thing to pay attention to during reconstruction. We need to directly attract investor funds. Kharkiv also closely cooperates with the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine. It is important that all branches of government unite for the sake of restoring the country and achieving peace», - the mayor concluded.
