On July 2, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov met with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine.

The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in preparation for the next heating season and the implementation of current joint projects.

The mayor of Kharkiv noted that the city does not generate electricity today, so the main task is to decentralize heat, power, and water supply systems before the cold weather starts.

"The energy situation is a very serious challenge for all of us. The provision of all public services depends on it. Just imagine what will happen to a city of more than 1.2 million people if there is no electricity, water and heat in winter. This is a humanitarian catastrophe. That is why I am counting on your support in this area," said Igor Terekhov.

According to the head of the Kharkiv sub-delegation, Stephanie Hartlacher, as part of the cooperation between the International Committee of the Red Cross and the city's utilities, starting in 2022, Kharkiv has already received generators, welding machines, and humanitarian aid.

"Last year alone, we helped repair three boiler houses. And this year we hope to help with equipment that will provide heat to another 23,000 residents in the winter," said Stephanie Hartlacher.
