International cooperation

Today, September 10, Mayor Igor Terekhov met with Massimo Diana, Director of the UNOPS Office in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.
The parties discussed the results of projects already implemented and identified the main areas for future cooperation.
Since the start of the full-scale war, UNOPS has remained one of Kharkiv's reliable partners. With the support of the EU and the Japanese government, projects worth over $11 million have already been implemented in the city. These include the repair of damaged housing in the most affected areas of the city, ensuring energy stability, setting up shelters in schools and kindergartens, and modernizing medical facilities.
Igor Terekhov stressed that it is extremely important for Kharkiv to have such an international partner. Thanks to UNOPS, hundreds of homes, hospitals, schools, and kindergartens have already been restored in the city, and the energy infrastructure has been strengthened. The mayor noted that cooperation should continue in areas that are critical to the lives of Kharkiv residents.
"UNOPS has been supporting Kharkiv since the beginning of the war. Thanks to you, we were able to restore housing in Pivnichna Saltivka and Oleksiivka, strengthen the energy sector, and ensure safe learning conditions for children. This is concrete help for thousands of Kharkiv residents. There are still many challenges ahead—energy, reconstruction of damaged housing, construction of Ukraine's first underground kindergarten. I am confident that together we can do even more," said the mayor.
In turn, Massimo Diana emphasized that Kharkiv remains one of the main areas of focus for the organization. Despite limited resources and high competition for funding, UNOPS will continue to implement projects that are important for the city, particularly in the field of energy sustainability.
"We highly value our partnership with Kharkiv. Despite difficult conditions and a shortage of resources, we have already implemented important projects in the fields of energy, housing, education, and medicine. It is essential for us to support Kharkiv during these difficult times. In the future, we are ready to focus on new projects, from developing the social housing system to strengthening energy independence, and on solutions that will help quickly overcome all the challenges facing your city today," he stressed.
