Igor Terekhov discussed the construction of municipal accommodation with international partners

Today, on 30 January, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov met with experts from the Housing Initiative for Eastern Europe (IWO), which is being implemented under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
During the negotiations, the participants discussed the details of the development of the Concept of Municipal Housing for the city. The project will be implemented with the financial support of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
According to the mayor, more than 150,000 citizens lost their homes as a result of hostile shelling, so today there is an urgent need not only to restore damaged buildings but also to build residential property. According to him, this will help Kharkiv residents return to the city from abroad and other regions of the country.
«We would like to take as an example the post-war reconstruction in Germany, when the city itself is the customer for housing construction and can then rent this housing on a long-term lease with the right to buy it for the citizens. This would be much cheaper for people than buying apartments at market prices from commercial developers, which is important given the number of people affected by russian aggression today», - said Igor Terekhov.
