Igor Terekhov: Economic development is a solid foundation for the future

On 16 January, Kharkiv City Mayor Igor Terekhov met with Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic David Mueller.

The meeting was part of the official visit of the Kharkiv mayor to the Czech Republic. The parties discussed plans for the economic recovery and modernisation of Kharkiv and focused on key aspects of the partnership: the participation of Czech companies in the restoration of transport infrastructure, development of the energy system and implementation of the smart city concept to modernise Kharkiv after the war.

Igor Terekhov thanked the Czech Republic for its support and spoke about the strategic goals.

‘Today I want to talk about joint projects and the development of Ukraine and the city of Kharkiv. Economic development is a solid foundation for the future. During my stay in the Czech Republic, I held a number of meetings in Brno and Prague, and all of them were aimed at the future. Our ambitious goal is to create an autonomous ‘energy island’ in Kharkiv, and we are ready to move towards it together,’ said the mayor.

In his turn, David Mueller stressed the importance of partnership with Ukraine.

‘Relations with Ukraine are one of our priorities, and we are currently discussing opportunities for cooperation at the level of mayors. As you know, the Czech government is one of the most active in supporting Ukraine in this difficult period. Establishing industrial and economic ties and modernising heating systems are the areas we are working on,’ he said.
