The delegation of the Kharkiv City Council took part in the celebration of ‘Gviriloba’ - the Day of the City of Kutaisi.
During the celebrations, the representatives of the Kharkiv delegation noted that Kharkiv and Kutaisi have long-standing friendly relations, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of sister city relations between the cities.
David Eremeishvili, Mayor of Kutaisi, emphasised the importance of partnerships in difficult times when mutual support and understanding are of particular importance.
The celebration also included a rafting trip on the Rioni River. Participants lit torches in the colours of the Ukrainian flag as a gesture of support for Ukraine.
Reference. The City Day has been celebrated in Kutaisi since the XIX century. The holiday is called ‘Gviriloba’ (from the Georgian word ‘gvirila’ - ‘daisy’) because women used to sell flowers on this day to raise funds for charity.
