Kharkiv commemorates Chernobyl heroes

On 26 April, Mayor Ihor Terekhov laid flowers at the monument to the liquidators of the Chornobyl disaster on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the tragedy.

During the event, the mayor thanked the Chernobyl victims for their feat and sacrifice. He noted that their courage saved the lives of millions of people.

‘39 years have passed since then, but the memory of those tragic events is alive. It is very important today that we gather together with the Chernobyl victims, because back then these people protected us from a plague that threatened the whole world. Some of them laid down their lives for us to live. And it is important to know this. And especially now, when there is a brutal war going on. I am very grateful today to all the Chernobyl victims who help, volunteer, joined the Armed Forces, and those who could not come but are also in Kharkiv, working. This is an example for all of us,’ said Igor Terekhov.
