Street lighting was restored in Kharkiv a year ago

Exactly one year ago, on 7 March 2023, for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, street lighting was switched on in the central part of the City and on the main roads.
After lengthy negotiations with those responsible for security, Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov got consent to illuminate the City's roads. According to him, this was a step in the right direction which should help to ensure the safety of Kharkiv residents and reduce the number of road accidents.
According to the Municipal Utility Company "Misksvitlo", at that time, about 25% of the executive control points for outdoor lighting were operating, including 254 objects of the street and road network. The total length of the networks at that time was 303 km. Street lighting was available until 20:00.
In 2023, the company's specialists restored 1.2 thousand kilometres of networks. They eliminated more than 5,000 breakdowns, replaced 67 poles, repaired 2,000 luminaires, and replaced 4,300 electric lamps.
"External lighting networks in Northern Saltovka and in the Internationalist residential complex were heavily damaged by shelling. The percentage of damage was more than 60% (approximately 1.4 thousand light points and 44 km of networks). To restore them, we need to reconstruct them and replace the damaged elements. We are currently restoring street lighting in Velyka Danilovka. It is operating on 15 streets in a test mode," said Oleksiy Kuyan, Director of the Municipal Utility Company "Misksvitlo".
As of today, 89% of street lighting control points are in operation in Kharkiv, including 2.4 thousand objects of the street and road network. The lighting in the City is open until 21:30. The total length of the network is over 2.5 thousand km.
The Municipal Utility Company "Misksvitlo" continues to restore outdoor lighting, eliminate damage and emergency situations.
