The Kharkiv Situation Centre is one year old: results of its work

A year ago, the Emergency Department of the City Council and the Situation Centre, which united the city's emergency services, security and defence forces, started operating in Kharkiv.

According to a post on social media today, 1 February, by Mayor Igor Terekhov, the centre's staff made 731 visits to emergency situations, 318 of which were due to shelling. The total time spent on the ground in the aftermath of the conflict was 1,039 hours, or 43 days.

According to the mayor, the city's security level was significantly improved over the year. In particular, a specialised video surveillance system was set up, which reduced the time to detect emergencies from 3 minutes to 15-25 seconds. A digital municipal radio system was also introduced, which allows all services to be coordinated quickly during emergency response.

In addition, a differentiated public warning system has been set up, which, according to the mayor, will be operational in the near future and will report threats only when there is a real danger to the city.

‘Specialised civil protection services have been created. These are our utility companies and their employees who are working titanically, seven days a week, day and night, 24/7 to eliminate the consequences of emergencies,’ the mayor stressed.

Igor Terekhov also said that over the year, the city's fund of protective structures was replenished with 125 shelters, and the material reserve for emergency response increased by UAH 13.8 million. In addition, the city received a new staff vehicle - a mobile control centre.
