Kharkiv Metro celebrates 49th anniversary of its launch

Today, on 22 August, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov congratulated the employees of the Kharkiv subway on the 49th anniversary of its launch.
According to the mayor, during the war, in addition to the function of transportation, the subway also took on the role of a shelter - at the beginning of the Russian invasion, more than 160,000 citizens simultaneously escaped from shelling.
‘The subway is one of the symbols of Kharkiv. We managed to save many lives at the beginning of the war thanks to its work. And we have very ambitious plans for the future as far as the metro is concerned. This includes the purchase of new rolling stock, construction of an underground electrical depot and new stations,’ said Igor Terekhov.
On the occasion of the holiday, the mayor presented the employees of Kharkiv Metro with the Mayor's Commendation.
