Igor Terekhov: Kharkiv needs funds for reconstruction

The city authorities are constantly looking for financial resources to rebuild Kharkiv, which regularly suffers from Russian shelling.

On 5 December, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov said during a national TV marathon that utilities together with volunteers were quickly closing the contours of damaged buildings after hostile shelling, but the city needs more resources for reconstruction.

‘Of course, there is not enough money. I appealed to the government to allocate some funds for reconstruction. It is very important for us, because 160,000 people are homeless and their apartments have been completely destroyed. We need to bring people back to the city, we need them to live in more or less normal conditions, despite the fact that there is a war going on. To do this, we need to rebuild the housing stock. We are using funds from the city budget, and there are also some subventions, but this is not enough,’ said Igor Terekhov.

The mayor also said that the damage caused to Kharkiv by the Russian aggressor has already reached about €10 billion.
