The aggressor country can cause destruction to the city of Kharkiv, but it will never be able to capture it.
This was stated by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov in an interview with the Washington Post.
The mayor said that, compared to 2022, the enemy has begun to use a more diverse arsenal of weapons, partly supplied by Iran, North Korea, and China.
"The Russians are deliberately leveling residential neighborhoods. Their goal is to terrorize people, force them to leave Kharkiv, and then destroy it. We need to make every effort to prevent the enemy from turning Kharkiv into the second city of Aleppo, which has been heavily bombed by Russian and Syrian government forces," the mayor emphasized.
Igor Terekhov noted that no one knows for sure what the Russians' plans are. Nevertheless, the mayor emphasized that Ukrainians will fight until they regain all the land within the country's internationally recognized borders, including Crimea. This requires, among other things, the assistance of international partners and the supply of weapons, especially air defense systems.
"For Ukraine, another frozen conflict is not a solution to the situation. We did not start the war. Our entire nation wants a just peace," the mayor emphasized.
