Ihor Terekhov: The problem of mine safety remains relevant for the City

The issue of clearing the territory of the Kharkiv Region from explosive hazards was discussed today, 10 April, at a meeting of the Regional Office for International Cooperation.

Participants of the meeting, including representatives of City and regional authorities, law enforcement officers, employees of the State Emergency Service, and international humanitarian organisations, discussed the state of demining in the Kharkiv Region and the challenges faced by deminers.

Ihor Terekhov emphasised Kharkiv's priority need to strengthen the protection of the sky and noted that the problem of mine safety remains relevant not only for the districts of the Region, but also for certain areas of the City. According to the Mayor, since the beginning of the war, the community has registered about 5,000 applications for demining, and deminers have found more than 2,500 explosive items.

"In Kharkiv, cemeteries, forest areas, and places near which active hostilities took place still remain uncleared of mines. Of course, the scale is not the same as, for example, in the de-occupied territories of the region, but there is a need for clearance. At the same time, the most important thing now is to close the skies over the City, because missiles and drones pose the greatest danger to Kharkiv residents," the Mayor stressed.
