Igor Terekhov: Businesses near the front lines deserve special treatment
Mayor Ihor Terekhov met today, June 11, with the staff of one of Kharkiv’s industrial enterprises.
During the meeting, they discussed the development of industry amid the war, preparations for the heating season, war-related risks to business, the modernization of public transportation, and other pressing issues.
The mayor emphasized that the restoration and development of manufacturing are key to preserving frontline communities and enabling people to return to their homes.
“If we want to preserve frontline cities and communities - which make up a significant part of industrial Ukraine—we must establish our own production facilities and create jobs. It is the development of industry that will make it possible to bring people back and secure the future of our communities,” noted Ihor Terekhov.
The mayor emphasized that frontline enterprises deserve special lending terms, as they operate under conditions of heightened risk.
“The city is already securing loans to prepare for the heating season under unique terms - at 1% per annum, with the equipment to be purchased using these funds serving as collateral. I really want our industrial enterprises to have the same opportunities. It’s impossible for businesses in the frontline region to have the same access to loans as enterprises in relatively safe areas,” the mayor emphasized.
Ihor Terekhov also stressed that businesses that continue to operate, create jobs, and pay taxes need government support in the event that their production facilities are damaged as a result of enemy attacks.
During the meeting, company employees had the opportunity to ask the mayor questions. In particular, they asked about road repairs, street renaming, maintaining free public transportation, and other issues.
