Igor Terekhov represented Kharkiv at the national forum on strategic development

During his speech, Igor Terekhov spoke about the development of the concept of the Kharkiv Master Plan, in which the city authorities are cooperating with the Norman Foster Foundation. He outlined the main objectives of the development strategy that will help people return to the city. In particular, the mayor stressed the importance of creating conditions for energy security, providing citizens with housing, jobs, education, high level of medical care and social protection. 

‘Our main task is dynamic development. We cooperate with the Norman Foster Foundation, receive assistance from the German government, the Ukrainian government and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally. We have opportunities that need to be used. The main thing that Kharkiv has is a great intellect, and we need to preserve it and move forward. In addition, Kharkiv is an industrial city. And the main focus should be on power engineering. And also on IT technologies. We have preserved this cluster. Yes, some people have left, but we are constantly working and communicating with specialists. We need to bring them back to Kharkiv,’ the mayor said. 

Igor Terekhov also stressed that, together with international partners, the city authorities are continuing all planned projects, including the construction of the metro and the purchase of rolling stock for passenger transport. 

The mayor drew special attention to the work with internally displaced persons, of whom there are about 205,000 in Kharkiv. 

‘These people will stay in the city, they need work, education and social protection. We have a clear action plan, an understanding of how we are moving forward even during the war. We cannot stand still. 

The main task is development and a just peace,’ concluded the mayor.
