Ihor Terekhov: Together with power engineers, we managed to make a miracle
Given the scale of the damage to critical infrastructure, power supply was restored in Kharkiv fairly quickly.
In an interview with LIGA.net online outlet, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that russia had destroyed all transformer substations in Kharkiv and damaged the thermal power plant which resulted in a complete power outage. According to the Mayor, it is impossible to restore these facilities quickly.
"Together with the power engineers, we managed to perform a miracle. The next evening, the power started to come back on in residential buildings. Unfortunately, there is not enough voltage. We had to finish the heating season ahead of schedule to save money. We introduced hourly power outage schedules. We decided not to light the streets. I can't promise that we will restore power within a specific timeframe," said Ihor Terekhov.
The Mayor also stressed that Kharkiv needs modern air defence systems to prevent missiles from hitting energy facilities.
"The President and the Government are working on this," said Igor Terekhov.
