Several locations are being built underground in Kharkiv.
In an interview with the UNIAN news agency, Mayor Igor Terekhov said that builders are currently working on three underground schools that will accommodate 450 students in one shift each.
"Yes, this is too little for Kharkiv today. The city has 60,000 schoolchildren who want to study full-time. And it is a challenge for us to do everything possible for full-time education. But it is not possible to say that we will build a real city underground. It is impossible, and we will definitely not do this," said Igor Terekhov.
In addition, Kharkiv has already developed design and estimate documentation for the arrangement of underground facilities in two hospitals.
"We will build underground operating theatres and intensive care units. There will also be wards underground. To do this, we are using international experience, including that of Israel. I hope that we will do this very quickly, but again, this does not mean that all hospitals will be moved underground," the mayor stressed.
