Competition for the project of reconstruction of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration announced

The Norman Foster Foundation is holding a tender to develop a project to restore the Kharkiv Regional State Administration building and the public area of the adjacent Freedom Square.

This was announced today, 11 September, by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov on his social media pages.

According to him, this project is special for the city.

‘After all, the Kharkiv Regional State Administration building is the main symbol of a free and unbreakable Kharkiv. And its restoration is more than just the restoration of architecture - it is a tribute to everyone who died as a result of the devastating missile attack on Freedom Square on 1 March 2022, a manifestation of our strength, our revival, resilience and faith in the peaceful and victorious future of Ukraine,’ said Igor Terekhov.

The mayor stressed that the contestants' proposals should contain a holistic approach to renovation and reconstruction. The best of them will be able to move on to the detailed planning and implementation stage.

The competition is a part of the joint work of the city authorities and the Norman Foster Foundation to develop the concept of the Kharkiv Master Plan in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Arup engineering company, Kharkiv architects and international experts.
