Address of Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
‘Today is a special day for all of humanity - the anniversary of an event that must not be forgotten. We remember the millions of innocent people who were exterminated simply because they were Jews. This tragedy has become a symbol of the deepest manifestation of hatred, which brings death and destruction.
We understand this pain, because now our country is also experiencing the aggressor's cruelty directed at us simply because we are Ukrainians.
But the civilised world, just like then, must be united to prevent history from repeating itself.
We need to remember the lessons of the past to prevent this from happening again in the future.’
