A number of theatres in Kharkiv have been exempted from paying utility bills

Six cultural institutions in Kharkiv have been exempted from paying utility bills for the period from 1 January 2024 to 15 April 2025.

The relevant decision was made today, 5 February, at an extraordinary session of the city council.

Thus, for the specified period, the collection of fees for services provided by the utilities of the Kharkiv City Council, namely heat and water supply, sewage and garbage collection, is suspended.

The following institutions received the benefit: Kharkiv Regional Philharmonic, Kharkiv Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy, Kharkiv State Academic Ukrainian Drama Theatre named after Taras Shevchenko, Kharkiv Theatre for Children and Youth, Kharkiv Academic Drama Theatre named after H.F. Kvitka-Osnovyanenko and Kharkiv State Academic Puppet Theatre named after V.A. Afanasiev.

‘Although these institutions are owned by the region, we must support them in these difficult times. They give concerts for our military in hospitals and at the frontline, perform in the subway, actively supporting Kharkiv residents,’ said Mayor Igor Terekhov.

The decision also envisages financial support from the city budget to utility companies to cover the costs of their services.
